Carrying On An Artistic Tradition
"When the Louvre was first opened to the public in 1793, it set aside five of every ten days for artists to study and copy its collection…"
— from The Art Museum as Education
At The Art Academy, we believe that it is important to create an environment that fosters a respect for artistic tradition and use that as a teaching tool, just as the founders of the Louvre did in 1793.
Erin Phillips was one of our earliest students. She was just a teenager when she produced this gorgeous painting — a copy of Charles Courtney Curran's impressionist masterpiece Lotus Lilies (1888). Erin's painting won a State Fair Blue Ribbon the year she completed it! It is among the first oil paintings to come out of The Art Academy, and we are still proud of Erin and her work.
