Our 2026 Update

In-Person Classes and Online Classes

We also offer a selection of online classes for ages 7 and up.

All of our classes run for 7 weeks and cost $240 per term.

– no classes on Fourth of July week (June 29th – July 5th)

IN-PERSON CLASSES

  1. Regarding occasional COVID outbreaks: We will follow all CDC Federal, State and City guidelines regarding masks and social distancing.
  2. In-person classes are held at The Art Academy, at 651 Snelling Avenue South in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
  3. If students feel ill we ask that they stay home and do not attend class.

ONLINE CLASSES

Ben King, adult student, oil painting, Adult Composite Class; Molly Dekarski, watercolor, age 15, Fundamentals Class; Sam Eiken, age 16, Character Design Class; Aaron Lipstein, age 17, Digital Illustration Class
  1. We have found that Online classes are great for students who struggle to find the motivation to work on projects at home.
  2. Everyone works on individual projects.
  3. The online classes will be held via Zoom.
  4. An invitation will be sent to participants 15 minutes before a class begins, with students entering the Zoom classroom 5 minutes before class time.
  5. We will begin with hellos, followed by one-on-one introductory comments given on each project.
  6. Throughout the class students may send photos of their work to their teacher via email.
  7. Photos will be shared and analyzed by way of the screenshare feature on Zoom. This will give everyone the opportunity to learn from other students’ projects.
  8. The class ends with an overview of projects and ideas for personalized homework if students desire to do it.
  9. Our online Character Design and Digital Illustration Class come with weekly Friday Night Hangout Sessions. The session runs from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
    a. These Sessions form a gathering of like-minded individuals to work on projects while casually enjoying the company of others.
    b. There is always a teacher monitoring the session so students can get extra help with any challenges they may be experiencing in their artwork.
  10. Students may also use the Hangout Sessions to make up any classes that have missed throughout the term.

SUMMER CAMPS & WORKSHOPS, AGES 13-Adult

CAMPS & WORKSHOPS BEGIN
AUGUST 10th and run through AUGUST 21th

When Art Academy student Fina Mooney was 14 she attended our Outdoor Landscape Camp for 13- to 18-year-olds. Here she is painting in Como Park, along with two of her 3-hour landscape sketches.
  1. These camps are for students interested in learning and perfecting sketching from nature in pencil, ink, watercolor, and oil painting.
  2. Included in each class is instruction on the basic techniques of color mixing and brush handling.
  3. Outdoors students will then have the opportunity to apply their newfound knowledge in front of nature.
  4. Careful observation, good drawing and confidence in drawing and painting will be emphasized.

SUMMER IN-PERSON CAMPS & WORKSHOPS, AGES 16-Adult
DAY TIMES AND LOCATIONS
MONDAY August 17th to THURSDAY August 21st STUART LOUGHRIDGE SUMMER WORKSHOP 2: In Studio Compositional Development and Watercolor Workshop with an Emphasis on Gesture, Accuracy, and Finish
9:30 am – 2:00 pm (Held at The Art Academy, 651 Snelling Avenue South, St. Paul)

COST FOR OUR OUTDOOR LANDSCAPE CAMPS & WORKSHOPS
The cost for Workshop 1 is $400.
The cost for Workshop 2 is $400.
Take both Workshops for $750 and save $50.
